Ash Chen (b. 1993, Dallas, TX) is a trans Taiwanese-American artist and educator born in Texas, and currently based in Brooklyn, NY. They are interested in the playful dialogue between the refined, the unexpected, and things often overlooked or hiding in plain sight. A site of whimsical anthropomorphic forms that echo the body, their work utilizes the erratic movement of glazes, organic forms, and study of surface texture to create mementos and reflections of a familiar world.

Ash’s artistic process at its core emphasizes and revisits the curiosity we often experience as kids, softening rigidity. Playful unearthing of the mundane, and peering into the ordinary, Ash has always been interested in observing the intricacies and beauties of domesticity and the natural world.
